Ho (V/R), Aug. 3, GNA – Mr Yao Semoade, Volta Regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has urged young people to embrace volunteerism, discipline and responsible living as they prepare to become future leaders of Ghana.
He made the call during a clean-up exercise organised in Ho over the weekend as part of activities marking the 2026 National Youth Month Celebration and the commemoration of International Youth Day.
Mr Semoade said the country’s future depended largely on the commitment, dedication and active participation of its youth, stressing that young people should not wait for personal rewards before contributing to national development.
He noted that volunteerism and community service were essential tools for instilling patriotism, responsibility and selflessness among young people.
The Regional Director urged students to remain focused on their education and personal development, describing the youthful stage of life as the most important period for preparing for future success.
“The future you dream of starts with the decisions you make today. Stay committed to your studies, keep your eyes on your goals and work hard to achieve them. If you fail to prepare today, you cannot become the person you aspire to be tomorrow,” he stated.
Mr Semoade cautioned the youth against drug abuse, alcoholism and other harmful behaviours that could undermine their aspirations and limit their potential.
He advised them to avoid negative peer influence and associate with people who would inspire and encourage them to make positive choices.
“Stay away from drugs, alcohol and bad company. Anyone who encourages you to break the law, abuse drugs or engage in activities that will derail your future is not a true friend. Choose friends who will help you grow, support your dreams and encourage you to become responsible citizens,” he said.
Mr Semoade reminded participants that many successful individuals achieved their goals through discipline, determination and focus, and urged the youth to take advantage of opportunities available to them.
He assured them that the NYA would continue to implement programmes aimed at promoting volunteerism, patriotism and leadership development among young people.
He also encouraged the youth to actively participate in community initiatives that would contribute to national development and improve the well-being of society.
