Mankessim (C/R), Aug. 16, GNA – The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region has elected entrepreneur Mr Joseph Esibu as its new Regional Chairman.
The new leadership has pledging to rebuild the party’s grassroots structures and restore its dominance in the region ahead of the Election 2028.
Mr Esibu, a two-time aspirant for the regional chairmanship, secured victory with 278 votes, defeating former Acting Vice Chairman Mr Percy Dennis, who polled 161 votes.
The peacefully conducted election attracted scores of party stalwarts to the School-Kessim Park in Mankessim, with 28 candidates including four women contesting the various positions.
Mr Esibu succeeds the late former Chairman, Robert Kutin Junior, who passed on after a prolonged illness, marking a new chapter for the party to build on Mr Kutin’s legacy and strengthen the NPP’s grassroots structures across the region.
Mr Ebenezer Odonkor Tettey, the Regional Director of Elections of the Electoral Commission arrived early at the polling station amidst heavy security deployed at the venue and along principal access roads.
Supporters in party colours filled the venue, singing for their candidates, while party stalwarts and Members of Parliament (MPs) led by Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the Minority Leader in Parliament.
In his acceptance speech, Mr Esibu called for unity among the party and appealed to members at all levels to rally behind a common programme of revival.
“This victory is not mine alone, it belongs to every member of the NPP in the Central Region. We must close ranks, rebuild our structures, energise the grassroots and present a credible alternative to the people of the Central Region in 2028,” he said.
He outlined plans to strengthen constituency operations, intensify membership engagement, and roll out targeted campaigns to win back lost supporters.
Mr Esibu also promised to work closely with national leadership, constituency executives, and party stakeholders to implement training for organisers, improve fundraising, and ensure consistent communication with the rank-and-file.
Expressing appreciation to delegates and party supporters, Mr Esibu thanked his competitors for a peaceful contest and urged them to join the unity drive.
“Our task now is to unite, mobilise and deliver results for our party and the people,” he said
The First Vice Chairman position went to Mr Kojo Halm, a former Chairman of the Effutu Constituency, who won with 271 votes, with Mr K. K Bondzi, also a former Vice Chairman, bagging 167 votes.
Mr Meshack Kweku Amoafo emerged victorious as the 2nd Vice Chairman with 220 votes to beat Mr Samuel Ghartey who had 120 votes and Madam Betty Adwoa Nyantakyiwaa with 97 votes.
The incumbent Central Regional Secretary, Mr Takyi Mensah retained his position with 283 votes, defeating Mr Armstrong Esaah who obtained 157 votes.
Mr Charles Odoom, the incumbent Assistant Secretary, defeated his contender Madam Eunice Darkor 257 votes, with the latter securing 178 votes.
Mr Anthony Sackey retained the post of the Regional Organiser with a commanding 333 votes, beating Mr Anthony Appiah who received 72 votes.
In the contest for Regional Treasurer, the incumbent Mr Francis Asare was re-elected with 244 votes, defeating Mustapha Mohammed who obtained196 votes.
From the Assin Central Constituency, Mr Odeneho Kwakye Appiah won the Youth Organiser position with189 votes, with his contenders, Mr Lawrence Edutuah Essiaw and polled 131 and received 118 votes.
Agyeman Asiedu was elected Communication Director with 233 votes, ahead of incumbent Isaac Mensah’s 118 votes and Noah Osei Assenso’ 85 votes.
Incumbent Charlotte Adwo Antwi retained the Women’s Organiser role after securing 302 votes, defeating Carolyn Aboagye who polled 136 votes.
In the Nasara contest, King Dgagada topped the poll with 207 votes as his contender, Mr Semila Kabore followed with 161 votes and incumbent Abubakar Osman trailed with 70 votes.
