MTN Ghana contributes GH¢5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes half of 2026

Sunyani, (Bono), Aug. 22, GNA-MTN Ghana, the nation’s largest telecommunication company contributed GH¢5.6 billion in direct and indirect taxes in the first half of 2026, Mr Emmanuel Afutu, Senior Manager, Network Projects Implementation at MTN Ghana has said. 
He added that the company also contributed GH¢384.7 million in fees and levies within the period, underscoring its significant contribution to national development. 
Mr Afutu disclosed this in a statement issued on the sidelines of a Regional Media and Stakeholder Forum held in Tamale, which brought together media practitioners from the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and North East Regions. 
A copy of the statement signed by Adwoa Wiafe, the Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Ghana and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani noted that the company’s service revenue grew by 32.3 percent to GH¢15.0 billion. 
Mr Afutu said the EBITDA increased by 47.1 percent to GH¢9.3 billion with Profit after tax growing by 46.8 percent to GH¢5.1 billion, reflecting the resilience of the business and the strength of its strategy. 
He explained that the forum discussed developments in the telecommunications industry and MTN Ghana’s contribution to Ghana’s digital transformation. 
Mr Afutu reinforced the company’s commitment to expanding connectivity and supporting economic growth across Northern Ghana as it marks 30 years of operations in the country. 
He expressed appreciation to the media and stakeholders for their partnership over the past three decades and acknowledged their contribution to MTN Ghana’s growth and success. 
“Thirty years ago, a mobile phone was a luxury. A signal was a miracle. Today, connectivity has become an essential part of everyday life, enabling people to access information, transfer money, grow businesses and connect with opportunities,” Mr Afutu stated. 
Mr Afutu indicated that MTN Ghana’s journey over the past 30 years had been driven by a commitment to connecting people and enabling progress. 
He said the company currently serves more than 32 million subscribers and continues to invest significantly in strengthening its network and enhancing customer experience. 
“MTN Ghana is investing US$1.1 billion over the next three years, including approximately US$380 million in 2026, to enhance network capacity, improve service quality and strengthen the resilience of its infrastructure.  
As part of this investment, MTN Ghana is deploying 500 new sites nationwide, including new sites in the Northern, Savannah, Upper East and North East Regions”, Mr Afutu indicated. 
“We believe that the true value of connectivity is measured not only by the sites we build or the technology we deploy, but by the opportunities it creates and the lives it touches,” he added. 
As MTN Ghana celebrates its 30th anniversary under the theme, “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You,” the company remains committed to expanding connectivity, enabling digital inclusion, and creating shared value for customers, communities, and the nation.
