Iran, Oman discuss creating corridor for shipping through Strait of Hormuz – Tehran

Moscow, Aug 25 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – Iran and Oman discussed the creation of a temporary shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz and joint demining of the route, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

“The proposed framework included the creation of a temporary joint shipping corridor through the Strait of Hormuz, as well as an agreement to establish a joint mine clearance project,” the ministry said in a statement following the meeting between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.

The parties will continue technical consultations to develop an agreement on the operation of a permanent corridor, as well as resolve the issue of future governance of the strait, the ministry added.
