Accra, Aug. 5, GNA – The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Wengam, is leading the Executive Presbytery officers of the church on a week-long apostolic and missions visit to The Gambia.
The delegation comprises Rev. Godwin Tito Agyei, Assistant General Superintendent; Rev. Ernest Birikorang, General Secretary; Rev. Simon Abu Baba, General Treasurer; and Rev. Dr. Freeman Osei-Tete, Head of Operations at the Headquarters of Assemblies of God, Ghana.
The team was received on arrival at the Banjul International Airport by a delegation led by Rev. Paul Ampofo Williams, National Head of The Gambia Assemblies of God Mission.
During the visit, Rev. Wengam and his team are expected to tour various branches of the church across The Gambia as part of efforts to strengthen fellowship and advance the church’s missionary activities in the country.
The General Superintendent is also scheduled to address the National Pastors and Leaders Conference, officiate at the ordination and credentialing of pastors, dedicate a newly completed church temple, and hold a high-level strategic meeting with the national leadership of The Gambia Assemblies of God.
The Gambia remains the first foreign mission field established by Assemblies of God, Ghana. The church in that country was planted about three decades ago under the leadership of the late Rev. Simon Asore, then General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana.
The pioneer National Head of The Gambia Assemblies of God was Rev. (Rtd.) Jerry Adjorlolo.
Currently, missionaries from the USA Assemblies of God and the Brazil Assemblies of God are working alongside the Ghana Assemblies of God Mission to support the growth of the church in The Gambia.
The visit is particularly significant as it marks the first time the entire Executive Presbytery of Assemblies of God, Ghana has undertaken an official visit to the Gambian mission field.
Rev. Ampofo Williams expressed delight at the historic visit, describing it as a major boost for the church’s mission agenda.
“This visit will strengthen and advance the missions work in The Gambia,” he said.
