Accra, July 30, GNA – Mr. Seidu Issifu, the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, has paid a courtesy call on Poanaa Ayishetu Abdulai Shinga I, the Paramount Queen Mother of the Samini Traditional Area.
The visit was part of his ongoing engagements with traditional authorities to strengthen local action on climate change and sustainable development.
A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency, said the visit formed part of the Minister’s tour of northern Ghana aimed at deepening collaboration with traditional leaders and local government authorities in addressing the growing impacts of climate change.
Mr. Issifu acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in mobilising communities and promoting environmental stewardship.
He noted that the increasing effects of climate change required stronger partnerships between government, traditional authorities and local stakeholders to develop practical and community-driven solutions.
The Minister underscored the need to establish climate change units within Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to improve the coordination of climate initiatives and integrate climate action into local development planning.
He explained that strengthening climate governance at the local level would enable communities to better identify climate risks, implement resilienct measures and support sustainable livelihoods.
Mr. Issifu emphasised that traditional leaders remained key partners in raising climate awareness and encouraging environmentally responsible practices, calling for continued collaboration to safeguard communities and natural resources.
The courtesy call provided an opportunity to reinforce the importance of traditional leadership in advancing Ghana’s climate agenda and promoting collective action at the grassroots.
