Nkawie (Ash) July 31, GNA – Mr Derrick Owusu Boateng, the Atwima Nwabiagya South NDC 2020 Parliamentary Candidate (PC), has declared his intention to contest for the constituency secretary position in the party’s upcoming primaries.
Mr Boateng, who announced his decision at a meeting with executives of the United Cadres Front (UCF) at Nkawie, said unity, collaboration and effective coordination among party members and government appointees in the constituency, as well as a unifying communication strategy at the grassroots, motivated him to contest.
He said the government required peace within the party and the committed support and cooperation of members to strengthen its ability to implement its developmental policies for the country.
He pledged to lead the reorganisation of the party, promote grassroots unity and build a strong relationship between the party and government to prevent internal and external misunderstandings that could affect the government’s performance.
Mr Boateng said reorganising a party in government was essential to guard against arrogance, corruption and other attitudes by appointees that could create a negative image and allegations against the government and its programmes and policies.
He noted that transparency, accountability and development-centred leadership could be achieved through internal party unity and peace, which would help produce accountable and transparent government appointees.
According to the former PC, his grassroots experience had equipped him with knowledge of the needs of the people, making him suitable for the position.
He appealed to party members to support his candidature to enable him to become the next constituency secretary and work for the benefit of members and constituents.
Alhaji Yahaya Zakaria-Cisse, Constituency Chairman of the UCF, urged Mr Boateng to conduct a peaceful campaign by clearly communicating his vision and capabilities to party members.
He advised him not to be discouraged by contesting for a secretary position after serving as a parliamentary candidate, stressing that growth from the grassroots was important for gaining more experience and advancing in leadership.
