Agbodza urges road contractors to speed up works without compromising quality

Kumasi, Aug. 22, GNA – Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, Minister for Roads and Highways, has urged contractors executing road projects in the Ashanti Region to accelerate work while maintaining the required quality standards.

He said the Government would not compromise on the quality of road infrastructure being delivered, stressing that contractors must ensure that projects met the required specifications and offered value for money.

Mr. Agbodza made the call when he, together with the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, inspected some major ongoing road projects in the region to assess their progress and quality.

The inspection covered the Outer Kumasi Ring Road, which passes through Atia, Juaben, Effiduase, Asokore Mampong, Tanodumase, Kwabre, Buoho and other municipalities and districts.

The road, which is distinct from the Kumasi Expressway, is expected to provide an important orbital route around Kumasi, improve connectivity, reduce congestion and open up economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.

The team also inspected the Abidjan Nkwanta–Kuntenase, Kuntenase–Sewua and Kuntenase–Ejisu road projects, as well as other ongoing road works in the Bosomtwe District.

Other projects inspected included the Suame Interchange and the Bekwai Roundabout–Santasi Highway.

Mr. Agbodza said the inspection was to enable the Ministry and other stakeholders to assess the progress of the projects, identify challenges and engage contractors on measures to ensure timely completion.

He urged the contractors to increase the pace of work and adhere strictly to approved designs and specifications, saying delays should not be used as a justification for compromising the quality of construction.

The Minister said the Government was committed to improving road infrastructure to facilitate the movement of people and goods and support economic activities in the Ashanti Region.

Meanwhile, Rango Construction, contractor for the Suame Interchange Project, assured Mr. Agbodza that Phase Two of the project, comprising three overpasses and the inner roads, would be completed and ready for use by the end of October 2026.

The completion of the phase is expected to improve traffic flow and enhance mobility for motorists, commuters, and other road users in the area.

Dr. Amoakohene commended the contractors for the work done so far and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to delivering the infrastructure required to transform the Ashanti Region.

He said the Regional Coordinating Council would continue to work with the Ministry and contractors to address challenges and ensure the timely delivery of critical road projects.
