Glasgow (Scotland), July 27, GNA – Ghanaian boxer Ebenezer Ankrah couldn’t reach the quarterfinals of the men’s 60kg boxing event at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
This comes after he suffered a narrow 3-2 split-decision defeat to Scotland’s Nicholas Devlin in the Round of 16.
Ankrah made a bright start to the lightweight contest, taking control of the opening round and continuing to dominate much of the second against the home boxer.
The bout, however, took a dramatic turn in the third round when the Ghanaian was handed a points deduction, a decision that ultimately proved decisive in the judges’ final verdict.
The loss sparked frustration in the Ghanaian camp, with Ankrah visibly disappointed after the announcement of the result.
Black Bombers head coach Ofori Asare also questioned the decision, believing his boxer had done enough to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Despite the disappointing outcome, Ankrah’s performance was widely praised, having matched and, at times, outclassed his Scottish opponent before the controversial deduction altered the course of the contest.
