Dambai (O/R) Aug 23, GNA – The newly elected Regional Executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Oti Region have pledged to work towards securing victory for the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 presidential election.

The executives have also resolved to strengthen the party’s structures across the region and develop effective strategies to win parliamentary seats in the 2028 general election after the party failed to secure any parliamentary seat in the region in the 2024 elections.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after an engagement of the newly constituted Regional Executive Committee, Dr Frank Yirenkyi, Regional Chairman, said the new administration was committed to rebuilding and strengthening the party from the grassroots to the constituency level.

He said the leadership would engage party members across all constituencies, identify challenges affecting the party, and work collectively to address them in preparation for the 2028 elections.

“Our mandate is to work very hard in all the constituencies to make sure that we win the parliamentary seat elections,” he said.

Dr Yirenkyi, however, declined to disclose the number of parliamentary seats the party was targeting, explaining that the new administration had only recently assumed office and would first undertake consultations before developing a comprehensive electoral strategy.

“Presently, I can’t tell you because we just took office. We are going to work, we are going to strategise and then come out with a solution on how to accomplish it,” he said.

He said the party’s immediate priority was to strengthen its internal structures, improve coordination among the various constituencies, and mobilise members and supporters towards a common objective.

Concerning possible divisions following the regional elections, Dr Yirenkyi said the elections were conducted peacefully and fairly, with no major grievances brought to the attention of the new leadership.

He said he had engaged other stakeholders within the party to promote unity, reconciliation and cooperation among members, stressing that unity would be critical to the party’s prospects in the 2028 elections.

According to him, the peaceful atmosphere that characterised the declaration of the election results and subsequent engagements was an indication of the willingness of members to work together despite differences that might have emerged during the electoral process.

He said the newly elected executives had also held their maiden meeting, during which members interacted cordially and demonstrated their commitment to working together in the interest of the party.

The Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to promoting unity and inclusiveness within the party, saying the NPP could only achieve its political objectives through collective effort and effective collaboration.

“My mandate is to unite the party. We are going to work together to deliver to our people,” he added.

Dr Yirenkyi appealed to party members, supporters and sympathisers to remain united, disciplined and committed as the party intensified preparations towards the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He said the Regional Executive Committee would continue to engage stakeholders and grassroots members to build a stronger, more cohesive and competitive party capable of reclaiming parliamentary representation in the region and contributing to the election of Dr Bawumia as President in 2028.
