Accra, July 7, GNA – Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, has urged newly appointed governing board members of key tourism institutions to ensure the prudent management of Ghana’s scarce resources.
She said the survival and success of public institutions depended largely on effective leadership, accountability and transparency.
Governing boards played a critical role in providing strategic direction and ensuring that public resources were managed efficiently to achieve national development objectives, she added.
Madam Gomashie made the call on Tuesday in Accra during the swearing-in of the Chairperson of the Governing Board of Ghana Tourism Authority, Ms. Phyllis Engmann, and Torgbui Amenya Fiti V, who was sworn in as a member of the Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
She said: “The survival or otherwise of these institutions depends to a large extent on you,” urging the board members to promote accountability, transparency and prudent resource management while ensuring that the programmes and activities of their respective institutions aligned with national priorities.
She outlined the boards’ responsibilities to include providing strategic leadership, strengthening institutional governance, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring the effective management of resources.
The Minister also urged the appointees to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
Madam Gomashie congratulated the members on their appointments and commended them for accepting the responsibility to serve the nation.
She commended President John Dramani Mahama for the appointments, saying they reflected the confidence reposed in the appointees to support the growth of Ghana’s tourism, culture and creative arts sector.
“I know you will work to justify the confidence reposed in you,” she said.
Ms. Engmann, a business management professional, assured the Minister of the board’s commitment to working closely with management to advance tourism development and strengthen Ghana’s position as a preferred tourism destination.
“With the President’s vision in mind and our country at heart, we are committed to leaving a lasting legacy. The board will support efforts to make tourism one of the country’s leading contributors to economic growth,” she said.
Torgbui Amenya Fiti expressed appreciation to President Mahama for the opportunity to serve on the Governing Board of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
He pledged to use his position to promote Ghana’s image and preserve the legacy of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the country’s first president, noting that the late statesman’s name continued to command respect across Africa and beyond.
