Tema, July 23, GNA- Officers of the Tema Regional Police Command have rejected a GH¢150,000 bribe allegedly offered by suspected drug traffickers during an operation that led to the seizure of 3,009 compressed slabs of suspected narcotic substances at Kpofopo.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Samuel Asiedu Okanta, Tema Regional Police Commander, disclosed this at a media briefing on recent security operations carried out across the region.
ACP Okanta commended the officers for demonstrating professionalism and integrity by refusing the inducement and ensuring the successful arrest of the suspects, who have since been remanded into custody pending trial.
He said the Kpofopo operation formed part of the command’s sustained efforts to combat drug trafficking and other criminal activities within the region.
He said in another operation on June 14, 2026, police intelligence intercepted a Chinese heavy-duty truck with registration number GN 2287-24 at Afienya.
A search of the vehicle uncovered 63 sacks containing 5,039 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotics.
The truck has been impounded while investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate.
ACP Okanta said on May 31, 2026, police also intercepted a Hyundai Mighty truck transporting 12 sacks of suspected narcotic substances.
The driver and his mate were arrested and are currently standing trial.
Beyond the anti-narcotics operations, the Tema Regional Police Commander said the command recorded significant breakthroughs in cases involving commercial theft and armed robbery.
He said following the robbery of a warehouse on June 22, during which armed men tied up security guards and stole 2,826 bags of rice and 113 cartons of sardines, police intelligence led officers to a warehouse in Ashaiman where part of the stolen goods had been concealed.
He said six suspects were arrested, while 717 bags of rice and quantities of sardines were recovered.
ACP Okanta also disclosed that police retrieved 600 of the 751 bags of organic fertiliser, valued at GH¢431,825, stolen from the Befit Agro Consult Warehouse on May 24.
He said the truck allegedly used in transporting the stolen fertiliser, a MAN Diesel vehicle with registration number AS 4302-14, had been impounded, while the driver was being prosecuted.
The Regional Commander further stated that two suspects connected with an armed robbery at Gbetsile-Agortor, during which a commuter was shot after robbers blocked the road, had been arrested following a police pursuit.
He added that four suspects linked to another robbery at Atadeka on July 14 had also been arrested, with one of them receiving treatment under police guard at a hospital in Tema after sustaining gunshot wounds during the operation.
ACP Okanta assured residents that the Tema Regional Police Command would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations to combat narcotics trafficking, armed robbery and other organised crimes in the region.
