Accra, July 23, GNA – Dr Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, the Minister of Finance, Thursday said the Government has reallocated GH¢400 million for the acquisition of high-occupancy buses.

This is to strengthen the fleets of state-owned transport companies as part of efforts to improve public transportation across the country.

Presenting the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review in Parliament in Accra, he said the intervention underscored Government’s commitment to improving urban mobility and providing safe, reliable and affordable public transport for Ghanaians.

He said the buses would be added to the fleets of Metro Mass Transit and the State Transport Company (STC).

Dr Forson said the initiative would significantly expand public transport capacity, particularly on high-demand urban and intercity routes.

The additional buses would help reduce long passenger queues during peak periods while providing commuters with a more reliable and efficient alternative to the use of private vehicles.

The Finance Minister noted that the investment formed part of Government’s broader strategy to improve the efficiency of the country’s public transport system and enhance mobility for commuters.
