NATO Allies Call Russia ‘Long-Term Threat’ to Euro-Atlantic Security – Declaration

Ankara, July 8 (RIA Novosti/GNA) – NATO member states labeled Russia as a long-term threat to Euro-Atlantic security in the leaders’ declaration published at the NATO summit on Wednesday.

“To counter the long-term threat Russia poses to Euro-Atlantic security and stability, and the persistent threat of terrorism, Allies are delivering on The Hague defence commitment,” the declaration read.

The brief, six-point final document was approved on the last day of the two-day NATO summit in Ankara. It notably omitted any mention of Ukraine’s NATO membership prospects.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a 2024 interview with US journalist Tucker Carlson that Russia had no intention of attacking NATO countries, as it would make no sense.

Russia has raised concern over unprecedented NATO military buildup near its western borders in recent years. The Kremlin has said Russia threatens no one but will not ignore actions that potentially undermine its security interests.
