Ho, July 17, GNA – Momo from MTN MobileMoney Limited has launched its “Ride with MoMo” initiative in Ho in the Volta Region to promote secure, convenient and cashless fare payments among commercial tricycle (Keke) operators.
The initiative, launched on July 16, 2026, on the theme “Ride with Keke,” seeks to accelerate digital financial inclusion by enabling riders to receive fares electronically through their Mobile Money wallets.
Mr Abdul-Majeed Rufai, the Senior Manager, Business Development, MobileMoney Limited, said the initiative was designed to eliminate the challenges associated with cash transactions, including the lack of change, counterfeit currency and payment disputes.
He said the platform would enable riders to receive instant payment notifications, reconcile transactions easily, and maintain records of their daily business activities.
“There is no need to worry about change or counterfeit notes. Every payment comes with an SMS notification, making it easy to track your income and manage your business,” he said.
Mr Rufai explained that registration required only a Ghana Card, after which riders would be onboarded as MoMo merchants and provided with branded materials to support their operations.
He encouraged riders who were unable to register during the launch to visit MTN service centres to complete the process.
Mr Rufai announced that MobileMoney Limited had introduced a three-month promotional campaign under which registered riders who completed at least 20 transactions worth a minimum of GH¢1,000 within a week would stand the chance of winning GH¢500 and one gigabyte of mobile data.
Mr Peter Bimpeh, the Senior Manager, General Trade South East, MTN Ghana, said commercial tricycle operators played a critical role in connecting communities and supporting local economic activities.
He said the initiative would provide riders with a secure, faster and more reliable payment solution while helping them better manage their daily earnings through digital financial services.
“People who keep Ghana moving deserve payment solutions that are equally efficient, secure and reliable,” Mr Bimpeh said.
He said the programme reflected the importance of collaboration between MTN Ghana, MobileMoney Limited, the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPSS), the Mahama Cando Association and other stakeholders in expanding financial inclusion across the country.
Mr Bimpeh urged riders to take advantage of the initiative by registering as MoMo merchants and embracing digital payment solutions to improve their businesses.
Mr Victor Adzah, the Chairman of the UHAS Keke Riders Association, commended MTN MobileMoney Limited for introducing the initiative, describing it as a major boost to commercial tricycle operators.
He said the platform had helped him improve his savings culture because money received electronically was less likely to be spent impulsively.
“When the money comes into the MoMo wallet, you think twice before spending it. It has helped me save more than when I handled cash,” he said.
Mr Adzah said the initiative had also eliminated the frequent challenge of passengers paying with large denomination notes when riders had insufficient change.
He noted that passengers could now pay conveniently by scanning a QR code or transferring funds directly to the rider’s Mobile Money account, making transactions faster, safer, and more efficient.
He appealed to MTN Ghana to sustain the initiative and continue introducing innovative digital solutions to support the operations and livelihoods of commercial tricycle riders.
