Dambai (O/R), July 28, GNA – The Krachi East Municipal Assembly has commenced a major road reshaping and rehabilitation exercise in Dambai Township as part of efforts to improve urban mobility, enhance drainage and create a more conducive environment for socio-economic activities.
The exercise, spearheaded by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Safo Nketia, is expected to restore deteriorated streets, improve accessibility, and facilitate the smooth movement of residents, motorists, traders and commuters within the municipal capital.
The works, which began this week, involve the grading, leveling and reshaping of major streets using heavy-duty equipment.
The exercise also includes the opening and clearing of drainage channels to prevent flooding, particularly during the rainy season and to protect sections of the road network from further deterioration.
During a tour by the Ghana News Agency (GNA) of the ongoing works, a grader was seen clearing uneven road surfaces and creating proper drainage systems along key roads in the township, while Assembly officials supervised the operations.
Mr Nketia said the initiative formed part of the Assembly’s broader commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting the government’s agenda of promoting sustainable local development through better road networks.
He noted that poor road conditions had posed challenges to transportation, commercial activities, and access to essential services, adding that the rehabilitation exercise would significantly improve movement within the municipality and stimulate economic growth.
“The Assembly remains committed to improving the living conditions of residents by investing in critical infrastructure. Good roads are essential for trade, education, healthcare delivery, and the overall development of the municipality,” he stated.
The MCE explained that the intervention would not only improve road accessibility but also reduce dust during the dry season and minimize erosion and flooding during periods of heavy rainfall.
He appealed to residents, transport operators, traders and other road users to exercise patience while the works were ongoing and to cooperate with contractors and Assembly officials to ensure the successful completion of the project.
Mr Nketia assured residents that the Assembly would continue to identify roads requiring urgent attention and extend similar rehabilitation works to other communities across the municipality in phases, subject to the availability of resources.
Some residents who witnessed the exercise expressed appreciation to the Assembly, describing the intervention as timely. They said many of the roads had become difficult to use due to potholes, erosion and poor drainage, especially during this rainy season.
They expressed optimism that the rehabilitation would improve transportation, reduce vehicle maintenance costs and make it easier for businesses and public services to operate efficiently.
The road reshaping exercise forms part of the Krachi East Municipal Assembly’s ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure, promote orderly urban development and enhance the quality of life for residents in Dambai and surrounding communities.
