Adaklu Have (V/R), July 28, GNA – Fire outbreak has completely razed down the offices of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC) and the GEC Child Development Centre at Adaklu Have in the Adaklu district.
Reverend Emmanuel Akorli, Chairman of the Ho Presbytery of the Church told the Ghana News Agency that a man who lived near the chapel detected the fire around 2330 hours on the night of Wednesday July 22 and raised an alarm.
He stated that the Fire Service Service Personnel from Ho were contacted but before they could arrive the fire destroyed everything in the two offices.
He said the Fire Personnel were able to put off the fire around 0100 hours.
He said items destroyed by the fire ran into thousands of Ghana Cedis.
The Presbytery Chairman mentioned items destroyed in the Church’s office as 200 plastic chairs, a public address system, two sets of bands, three pulpits, a generator and a deep freezer.
He said items destroyed in the Child Development Centre office were a deep freezer, a generator, two photocopy machines, three Samsung Galaxy tablets, a piano, three office cabinets, and three office chairs and tables each, a blender and 15 butterfly sewing machines.
The others he stated were a rice cooker, files, a star link device, a projector and screen, a camera set, weighing scales, 40 plastic chairs, and roofing sheets.
The rest were a PA system, four sets of drums, a cylinder, record books and a cash of GHc8,235.00.
He noted that the fire might have been caused by an electrical fault.
Rt Rev Dr Prosper Samuel Dzomeku, Moderator of the Church said though properties worth thousands of Ghana Cedis were lost in the fire, he was grateful to God that no life was lost.
He called homeowners to heed the advice of the Fire Service to change their old wirings.
The Moderator also appealed to the public not to use sub-standard wires and also engage qualified and certified electricians to do their wiring for them.
He assured that the Church would come to the aid of the congregation and appealed to Compassion International Ghana, the sponsors of the Child Development Centre, philanthropists and organizations to come to the aid of the victims.
An electrician, who requested anonymity, told the GNA that he had earlier drawn the attention of the Centre’s leadership to the faulty nature of the electrical wiring.
“I was not surprised when I heard the news of the fire outbreak,” he said.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are expected to continue.
