Berlin, Aug 24. (dpa/GNA) – At least one civilian was killed in fresh Russian attacks on Ukraine, as the country marked its Independence Day on Monday, according to Ukrainian authorities.
One person was killed and two others injured in the industrial city of Pavlohrad, said Oleksandr Hansha, military governor of the south-eastern Dnipropetrovsk region, on Telegram.
Cars were set ablaze and windows were shattered in apartment buildings. Hansha did not say what type of weapon was used in the attack.
Meanwhile, at least 20 people were injured in a drone attack on the centre of the north-eastern city of Chernihiv, according to local authorities.
Two women were taken to hospital with serious injuries, military governor Vyacheslav Chaus said. A residential building was also damaged.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion for four and a half years. August 24 marks the 35th anniversary of the Eastern European country’s declaration of independence from the Soviet Union.
