Ho (V/R), July 30, GNA – The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced that the National Interconnected Transmission System experienced a major power system disturbance at approximately 0311 hours on Wednesday, resulting in widespread electricity supply interruptions across parts of the country.
A press statement issued by the Corporate Communications Section of GRIDCo, said the disturbance caused the simultaneous tripping of some power generating plants connected to the national grid, leading to the disruption in electricity supply.
The statement said GRIDCo immediately activated its established system restoration procedures, with engineers and system operators working around the clock in close collaboration with key power sector stakeholders, to restore electricity supply to affected customers as quickly as possible without compromising safety.
It noted that a comprehensive technical investigation had commenced to determine the exact cause of the disturbance and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
GRIDCo apologised to the public for the inconvenience caused and expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding of customers, while restoration efforts continued.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to restoring power safely and efficiently and assured the public that further updates would be provided as more information became available.
Meanwhile, Mrs Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in the Volta Region, confirmed the outage to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) and appealed to customers to remain calm as engineers worked to restore supply.
She assured customers that ECG was collaborating closely with GRIDCo and other stakeholders, to ensure that electricity was restored to all affected areas as soon as possible.
Mrs Tweneboah-Kodua advised the public to switch off electrical appliances where necessary and exercise patience until normal power supply was fully restored.
Power has since 1330hours been restored.
