Sogakope (V/R), July 28, GNA – Mr Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, the Member of Parliament (MP) for South Tongu, has appealed to the government to release of funds for the completion of the Agordomi Water Supply Project to improve access to safe drinking water in parts of the Volta Region.

The appeal followed a working visit by the MP to the project site, where he assessed the progress of work and received a briefing from engineers and project managers on the status of the facility.

The Agordomi Water Supply Project, being executed by Lesico, is designed to provide potable water to Sogakope, Keta, Aflao and several surrounding communities, with the objective of improving water security and supporting socio-economic development in the beneficiary areas.

Mr Lukutor described the project as a critical investment in public infrastructure and stressed the need for its timely completion to meet the growing water demands of residents and businesses.

The MP said the construction had stalled for about three years due to funding constraints, explaining that the government owed the contractor approximately €63 million.

He said an additional €12 million was required to procure key equipment needed to complete the first phase of the project, adding that work could be concluded within six months if the necessary funds were made available.

Mr Lukutor, in an official media post, commended the contractors for the progress made despite the challenges and assured them of his commitment to engaging the relevant state institutions to facilitate the release of funds.

He disclosed that he had already held discussions with the Ministers responsible for Works, Housing and Water Resources, as well as Finance, to advocate for the prompt settlement of outstanding payments to enable work to resume.

The MP said the completion of the project would significantly enhance access to potable water, improve public health outcomes, and stimulate economic activities across South Tongu and neighbouring districts.

He expressed optimism that the necessary interventions would be made to ensure the successful completion of the project for the benefit of the people.
