Glasgow (Scotland), July 29, GNA – GCB Bank PLC has signed a partnership agreement with the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) Ghana to support athlete development, grassroots sports programmes and the promotion of the Olympic and Commonwealth movements in the country.
The agreement comes as Ghana participates in the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow from July 23 to Aug. 2, 2026, while also planning for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Under the partnership, GCB Bank will provide support for athlete preparation, capacity building for sports administrators, grassroots sports initiatives and promotional activities aimed at increasing participation in Olympic and Commonwealth sports nationwide.
Speaking at a GH¢1 million presentation ceremony at Team Ghana’s hotel in Glasgow, Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee and Commonwealth Games Association Ghana, said the partnership would strengthen efforts to build a sustainable sports system and improve Ghana’s competitiveness on the international stage.
“This partnership comes at a critical time as we prepare Team Ghana for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and lay a strong foundation for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“GCB Bank’s support demonstrates confidence in our vision and will contribute meaningfully to athlete preparation, the development of our sports structures and the promotion of the values of excellence, friendship and respect that define the Olympic Movement.”
Madam Cynthia Ofori-Dwumfuo, GCB Bank’s Chief Marketing, Communications and Customer Experience Officer, said the partnership aligned with the bank’s commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute to national development.

The GOC/CGA said the partnership was expected to create opportunities for athletes while strengthening cooperation between Ghana’s sports and financial sectors.
Both organisations said they were committed to ensuring the partnership delivers long-term benefits for athletes, sports administrators and sports development across the country.
