Accra, July 30, GNA – The Court of Appeal has acquitted Sedinam Ationu Tamakloe, former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), after overturning her conviction and 10-year prison sentence.
The appellate court set aside the High Court’s judgment of April 16, 2024, ruling that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the essential ingredients of the offences charged.
Ms Tamakloe had been convicted on charges of conspiracy, stealing and wilfully causing financial loss to the State involving more than GH¢90 million in relation to her tenure as MASLOC Chief Executive Officer.
Ms Tamakloe was sentenced in absentia to 10 years’ imprisonment by the High Court on April 16, 2024.
She was recently extradited to Ghana following the High Court proceedings.
Daniel Axim, former Chief Operating Officer of MASLOC, who was tried with Ms Tamakloe, was sentenced by the High Court to five years’ imprisonment.
He is currently on bail pending the determination of his appeal.
Mr Enoch Deegbe, counsel for Ms Tamakloe, said he was pleased the Court of Appeal agreed with the defence that the charges preferred against his client were defective.
He said he would relay the Court’s decision to his client, who is currently in prison.
