Nkoranza, (Bono East), July 06, GNA-The Council of Bono and Ahafo Associations of North America (COBAANA) has commended healthcare volunteers from Georgia in the United States for their humanitarian medical services in Ghana.
According to the Council, the largest umbrella organisation for Ghanaian residents in North America, the volunteers deserved the commendation for their selflessness in providing free medical and surgical services to residents at Nkoranza in the Bono East Region.
In a statement issued and signed by Dr Degraft Kwafo Gyan, the Chairman of the COBAANA explained that the Council sponsored the free medical mission that offered the opportunities for the hundreds of residents at Nkoranza to know their various health conditions.
“As major sponsor of this life-changing initiative, COBAANA is deeply encouraged by the tremendous impact the program has had on the lives of the people”, a copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) stated.
The organisation is especially impressed by the number of patients who received much-needed medical attention and life-changing surgeries, bringing relief and renewed hope to many families.
It noted, “This isn’t the first time the healthcare volunteers of Georgia have generously donated their time, expertise, and resources to serve the people of Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo.”
In 2023, the team served the people of Duayaw-Nkwanta in the Tano North Municipality of the Ahafo Region, saying that their unwavering commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the communities has touched countless lives over the years.
The COBAANA said it was sincerely grateful for their continued partnership in addressing the urgent healthcare needs of our people.
According to Dr Nicholas Fosu, the leader of the medical team, 131 patients successfully received free surgical procedures during the medical mission.
The procedures included 13 cases of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 35 cases of plastic surgery and 83 cases of general surgery.
It said that: “These remarkable achievements demonstrate the compassion, professionalism, and dedication of the volunteer medical team”.
Their selfless service perfectly reflects COBAANA’s enduring commitment to improving healthcare under the theme: “The Health of Our People Is Our Concern”.
The COBAANA commends every physician, surgeon, anesthetist, nurse, pharmacist, laboratory professional, medical student, volunteer, and support staff whose sacrifice, expertise, and commitment made this mission a resounding success.
The statement expressed COBAANA’s appreciation to the traditional authorities, clergy, government officials, community leaders, volunteers, and all individuals whose cooperation and support contributed to the successful execution of the mission.
“A special word of gratitude goes to St. Theresa’s Catholic Hospital, Nkoranza, for graciously making its facilities available to the medical team”, it added, saying that: “Their generosity and partnership were instrumental in ensuring the success of this humanitarian outreach”.
For many years, COBAANA has remained committed to supporting healthcare initiatives throughout the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions.
Through strategic partnerships with healthcare professionals, organizations, and generous donors, COBAANA continues to invest in initiatives that improve access to quality healthcare for our people.
One of COBAANA’s flagship healthcare projects currently underway is the construction of a Multi-Purpose Dialysis and Medical Center in Sunyani.
This vital facility is being developed to help address the growing burden of kidney disease and expand access to life-saving dialysis services for residents throughout Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, and neighboring regions.
The statement called on traditional authorities, business leaders, corporate organizations, professionals, philanthropic institutions, and individuals both at home and abroad to support the historic project.
It added that financial contributions, equipment, and strategic partnerships were required for the execution of the project.
“Together, we can build a healthier future for our communities and ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all”, the statement indicated.
