Sunyani, (Bono), July 20, GNA-Alhaji Mohammed Moctari, the newly Wangara Chief in the Bono Region has called on the people of the Wangara descent to endeavour to co-exist peacefully with others, regardless of their culture and tradition.
He emphasised that peace and social cohesion remained pre-requisites in facilitating accelerated development, saying that culture and tradition reflected the identity of the people, and should not divide society.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Alhaji Moctari, 61 years, and a businessman, indicated that with tolerance and respect for each other, people with diverse ethnic backgrounds could live harmoniously.
He said Ghana and countries elsewhere had been forward-thinking with civilization evolving, urging the need for the Wangaras and people of other different tribes to tolerate and respect the culture and tradition of each other.
Alhaji Moctari indicated building a better society and advancing progressive development remained shared responsibility for an all-inclusive approach.
He, therefore, called on Ghanaians to be guarded enough, not allowing tribal backgrounds or differences to ‘build a wall’ between them, saying that doing so would not do anybody good, instead impede the development process.
Alhaji Moctari also touched on youth moral decadence evidenced in disrespect for authority, acts of lawlessness, and indecent dressing.
He emphasised the need for various tribes and ethnic groups in the country to re-introduce some ancient traditional and cultural practices that promoted discipline and shaped the minds of the people.
However, Alhaji Moctari was quick to add that those traditions should not be inimical to the holistic growth and development of the youth.
