Kumasi, July 22, GNA – Thirty-four out of the 35 candidates aspiring for various executive positions in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region, have been cleared to contest the elections.
However, one of the contestants withdrew from the race after the vetting exercise.
Mrs Rita Asobayire, Chairperson of the Ashanti Regional Elections Committee, speaking to journalists after the exercise, said the vetting had been very smooth and peaceful.
She confirmed that the regional executives’ elections would be held on August 15, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and called on all aspirants to be decorum in their campaigning messages.
She noted that the exercise had been very smooth without any hindrance, and members of the vetting committee acted very professionally.
It was therefore important for all the candidates to conduct themselves in a way that would strengthen unity and propel the party to win the 2028 general elections.
The Ashanti regional executive contest is expected to be very keen, because all the aspirants have influences and experience in the party.
