Goaso, (Ahafo), July 22, GNA – The Ahafo Regional Command of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has launched a special enforcement exercise to bring sanity on the highways in the region.
According to the Police Superintendent Ekow Gaisie, the Ahafo Regional Commander of the MTTD, the exercise would ensure that drivers complied with road safety regulations.
In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the launch of the exercise at Goaso, he said all vehicles and motorbikes fitted with unapproved lights as well as unregistered ones without proper documentation would be impounded.
He said the exercise would improve road safety and control crashes and needless fatalities, and urged vehicle owners and drivers to comply with road traffic regulations.
Police Supt Gaisie warned that fixing unapproved lights on vehicles threatened other road users, saying that those lights could blur the vision of drivers and increase the risk of road crashes.
He urged vehicle owners to ensure that only approved lights were fixed on their machines, saying that drivers who failed to comply with road regulations would be prosecuted.
Police Supt Gaisie called for public support towards the exercise, saying that ensuring safety on the roads remained collective responsibility.
The MTTD Commander was optimistic that with the cooperation of the road users, the needless crashes and fatalities would be brought to the barest minimum.
