Accra, July 24, GNA- Dr Kofi Nsiah-Poku, President, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), has called on businesses to invest in quality management systems to be competitive in the global market.
He charged industries to strengthen their manufacturing base and invest in innovation to build a strong economy for national development.
Dr Nsiah-Poku said this in Accra at the launch of this year’s 15th AGI Ghana Industry and Quality Awards on Thursday.
It is on the theme: “From Stability to Growth: Strategic Industrialisation as the Catalyst for Economic Transformation.”
He said the theme reflected the current state of Ghana’s economic recovery growth, resulting in improvement in business confidence.
Dr Nsiah-Poku said economic stability was not an end but a foundation for sustainability, adding that industrialisation must transform the economy to improve living standards.
The awards ceremony is to celebrate businesses that have raised the standards of industrial excellence in the country.
“The ceremony is more than an award but a national platform to promote competitiveness, innovation, and responsible business practices,” he said.
The AGI President said the launch was a national campaign to promote industrial competitiveness and excellence.
Quality, he said, remained the centre of every business, serving as a strategic model in strengthening confidence and improving productivity.
He expressed confidence in Ghanaian businesses, capable of producing goods that could compete favourably on the international stage.
Dr Nsiah-Poku said the Association had engaged with the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry to champion a tariff regime to ensure the competitiveness of businesses.
The AGI, he noted. remained committed to building an industrial ecosystem that was competitive for national growth.
Dr Bannerman-Abbot, the Chairperson for the Awards Planning Committee, assured businesses that the awards processes would be transparent and fair, devoid of untoward criteria.
She urged enterprises to participate in the upcoming event, stressing that “the process is entirely on merit and nothing else.”
The launch witnessed a special recognition of companies that had continuously supported the awards event.
The ceremony, scheduled to take place in November, has categories including major awards, the sector awards, the inclusive business category, regional awards, and a few honorary awards.
