Warsaw, Sept 9. (dpa/GNA) – A woman has died, following a collision between a lorry and a train in Poland on Wednesday.
Seven other people were injured and taken to hospital, a spokeswoman for the air ambulance service told the PAP news agency.
The lorry driver and the train driver are among the injured. A railway spokeswoman said the accident occurred shortly before midday at a level crossing, between the villages of Sokolniki Suche and Sokolniki Mokre, around 125 kilometres south-west of Warsaw.
The driver of a concrete mixer was attempting to cross the unguarded level crossing, when his lorry collided with the first carriage of an Intercity train, the investigating prosecutor told TVN24.
Footage taken by a TVN24 reporter from inside a car, showed several derailed carriages. The fire service spokesman said that all six carriages of the Intercity had partially derailed, while the locomotive had come completely off the tracks.
The train was travelling from Lublin in the east of the country to the port city of Szczecin. According to the public prosecutor’s office, there were 114 people on board.
