Tehran, Dept 8. (dpa/GNA) – Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Wednesday, it had attacked several more vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The IRGC said, it had targeted US vessels as well as oil tankers and cargo ships, that had violated Iranian shipping rules in the strategic waterway, in retaliation for US attacks on five Iranian tankers.
The claims could not immediately be independently verified.
Fighting between the United States and Iran escalated again overnight. The US military said it had destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers, sinking one of them, in retaliation for Iranian attacks on a US warship.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they initially responded with heavy missile attacks on Jordan, a US ally. Jordan’s state news agency Petra said the country’s armed forces intercepted 20 ballistic missiles.
