Apeguso (E/R), June 18, GNA – The Volta River Authority (VRA) has donated furniture and educational materials to schools in the Asuogyaman District to support teaching and learning.

The support included 100 chairs and 100 desks for Apeguso Senior High School, as well as 10,000 exercise books and 1,000 mathematical sets for 11 selected basic schools.

Mrs Rhoda Arthur, Community Relations Officer of the VRA, said the donation formed part of the Authority’s community development programme and efforts to promote education in its operational areas.

She said the exercise was part of a broader initiative to distribute 100,000 exercise books and 10,000 mathematical sets to 110 selected basic schools across 19 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within the Authority’s operational areas, including Anwomaso, Aboadze, Tema, Kpone, Akuse and Akosombo.

Mrs Arthur said the Authority regarded education as central to sustainable development and community growth.

“As an institution, the best way to do that is to invest in education, which is guided by our community programme framework, placing education at the very heart of sustainable development.

“We firmly believe that education is not just a pathway to knowledge but the foundation upon which communities thrive, and futures are built,” she said.

Mrs Arthur said the Authority had a responsibility to support communities within its operational areas and ensure that residents benefited from its presence.

“This gesture is more than the distribution of learning materials; it is an investment in the dreams of our children, the aspirations of our communities, and powering the future of Ghana through education,” she said.

Mrs Arthur said the intervention was intended to motivate students, support teaching and learning and equip young people with the tools needed to succeed.

“For us at VRA, education is the seed from which leaders, innovators, and change-makers grow; and by supporting education, we are not only shaping minds but also strengthening communities and adding value to lives.”

Mr Godwin Bobobee, District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, commended the Authority for its support to education through the provision of educational infrastructure and learning materials.

He said the donation reflected a commitment to human capital development and urged students to remain focused on their studies.

Mrs Augustina Adwoa Owusu, Asuogyaman District Director of Education, expressed appreciation to the VRA for the support.

She said the donation would help address concerns about inadequate learning materials and ease the burden on some parents facing financial difficulties.

Mr Sekyi Frederick Kwafo, Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration at Apeguso Senior High School, thanked the Authority for the donation and pledged that the items would be used to support teaching and learning in the school.
