Stuttgart, Aug 2 (dpa/GNA) – A plane travelling from Stuttgart to Vienna was struck by lightning, prompting it to turn back to Stuttgart as a precaution for a technical inspection, the Eurowings airline said on Friday.
The Eurowings aircraft was already in the air when the lightning strike hit, a spokeswoman for the airline said. Flight safety was not affected at any time.
The plane landed back at its departure airport after around 40 minutes. A total of 106 passengers and crew were on board. The passengers were rebooked on other flights.
Technicians inspected the aircraft after the incident on Thursday evening. The Airbus A320 would be able to take off again in the course of the day, the spokeswoman said.
