Bolgatanga, June 30, GNA – The Management of the Upper East Regional Hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering world-class healthcare by placing clinical research at the heart of patient care, innovation, and service delivery.
As part of its strategic vision to improve health outcomes, the Hospital is strengthening its research capacity to ensure evidence-based practice remained central to healthcare delivery.
The initiative, championed by Dr Joseph Kojo Tambil, the Medical Director, seeks to position the nearly 80-year-old referral facility as a centre of excellence in clinical care, research, and training.
To support the vision, the Hospital’s Research Department had begun orientation sessions for staff across all departments to deepen their understanding of the Hospital’s strategic plan and the critical role of research in improving healthcare quality.
Speaking during one of the sessions, the Head of the Research Department, Mr Francis Kwaku Wuni, stressed that research enabled healthcare professionals to make informed clinical decisions using scientific evidence, patient data, and established treatment guidelines.
“Research helps us understand what is working and what is not. When we use evidence to guide patient care, we achieve better outcomes and improve the quality of healthcare we provide,” he said.
Mr Wuni noted that research played a vital role in reducing complications, preventing infections, improving recovery rates, and ensuring the efficient use of limited healthcare resources.
He added that evidence-based protocols also guide the proper management of medical devices, helping to minimise infection risks and improve patient safety.
He emphasized the importance of generating local research evidence to address the unique health challenges of the region.
Citing a recent hospital study that found an 89.9 percent antibiotic resistance rate to ampicillin, he said such findings helped clinicians to review treatment protocols, avoid ineffective therapies, reduce healthcare costs, and improve patient outcomes.
Mr Wuni encouraged all healthcare professionals to embrace research as a core pillar of healthcare delivery.
“Every strong health institution stands on three pillars; clinical practice, research and training. Research is the engine that drives innovation and continuous improvement,” he stated.
The renewed focus on research reflects the Upper East Regional Hospital’s commitment to delivering safe, effective, and patient-centred care while strengthening its reputation as one of Ghana’s leading referral healthcare institutions.
