Ehi Horme (V/R), June 18, GNA – Pupils of the Ehi Horme Basic School and members of the Ehi Horme community in the Ketu North Municipality have intensified preparations ahead of the launch of the 10th anniversary celebration of the annual Ehi Nutome Gali Za.
The launch, scheduled for July 4, 2026, will take place at the Ehi Horme Basic School Park; and is expected to attract chiefs, opinion leaders, residents, development partners, and indigenes from across Ghana and the diaspora.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some pupils of the Ehi Horme Basic School said they had begun activities towards the celebration through communal labour, environmental cleaning, and sensitisation campaigns within the community.
The pupils expressed excitement about their community hosting the historic launch and said the event would provide an opportunity to showcase the economic, nutritional, and cultural significance of gali (cassava flakes) to a wider audience.
They noted that apart from cleaning public spaces and school surroundings, they were educating their peers and community members on the importance of the festival and the role of gali in the daily lives of the people.
“We are happy that our community is hosting the launch. We want visitors to come and meet a clean and beautiful environment. We are also telling others about the importance of the festival and why gali is important to us,” one of the pupils said.
Madam Minao Amable, a resident of Ehi Horme, said preparations were progressing steadily and that residents were working closely with the school authorities to ensure the community was ready for the occasion.
She said the launch would mark an important milestone in the history of the festival and provide an avenue to promote the cultural heritage and economic activities of the people.
Madam Amable urged citizens of Ehi Horme and indigenes living abroad to return home and participate in the anniversary launch.
“This is a historic event for our community. We are making every effort to keep the environment clean and attractive for our guests. We appeal to all sons and daughters of Ehi Horme, especially those in the diaspora, to come home and be part of this memorable celebration,” she said.
The Ehi Nutome Gali Za is an annual celebration organised by the chiefs and people of Ehi in the Ketu North Municipality to promote the importance of gali as a major agricultural product and staple food in the country, the sub-region and beyond.
The festival also serves as a platform to showcase the various products and dishes prepared from gali, while highlighting the contribution of cassava farming and processing to the local economy.
The week-long festival is traditionally celebrated during the last week of September and attracts visitors from different parts of Ghana and beyond.
This year’s celebration is expected to feature exhibitions, cultural performances, educational programmes, community development discussions, and displays of the diverse varieties of gali produced by the people of Ehi.
