Dambai (O/R) June 19, GNA – The Oti Regional Minister, Mr John Kwadwo Gyapong, hosted a high-level delegation from the Ghana Armed Forces at the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (ORCC) in Dambai to strengthen collaboration on regional security and peacebuilding efforts.
The delegation was led by Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, including Brigadier General William Kwabiah and other senior military officers.
The visit formed part of ongoing engagements aimed at assessing the security situation in the region and reviewing measures to sustain peace and stability.
Addressing the delegation, Mr Gyapong recalled earlier consultations with the military leadership on security concerns in Nkwanta and surrounding communities.
He noted that discussions held approximately a year ago informed the deployment of security personnel to the area as part of efforts to maintain law and order and protect lives and property.
The Minister commended the Ghana Armed Forces for their continued professionalism and commitment to preserving peace in the region, particularly in areas that had experienced security challenges.
He observed that the military had since moved beyond immediate response measures and was implementing broader strategies designed to address the underlying causes of insecurity and promote lasting stability.
The meeting also reviewed ongoing collaboration between the Regional Coordinating Council and the security agencies, with discussions focusing on coordinated approaches to addressing emerging security concerns and enhancing community confidence.
Major General Gbetanu reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana Armed Forces to supporting national and regional efforts aimed at maintaining peace and ensuring a secure environment for development.
Both parties underscored the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in safeguarding lives and property, fostering social cohesion and creating conditions conducive to socio-economic growth across the Oti Region.
