Bechem, (Ahafo), June 08, GNA – Mr Emmanuel Kwame Frimpong, the Tano South Municipal Chief Executive in the Ahafo Region, has urged educational institutions to inculcate the habit of environmental cleanliness and preservation in students and pupils.
He said when young people were environmentally disciplined, they would grow to preserve and sustain the environment.
Mr Frimpong gave the advice when speaking at the launch of the Municipal edition of the 2026 National Sanitation Day (NSD) at Bechem.
He advised the community members in the Municipality not to wait till the NSD before they kept their surroundings clean, but to rather make environmental sanitation an everyday activity.
Mr Frimpong added that the NSD was making a significant impact in proper waste management and sanitation in the area and urged the people to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse and littering around to avert the outbreak of diseases.
He commended the Tano South Local Council of Churches for donating dustbins which would be placed at vantage points to control littering and to keep the municipality clean.
Mr Malik Seidu, the Tano South Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, commended the residents, especially the youth for the impressive turnout, and urged them to keep their homes and surroundings clean at all times.
He cautioned the public desist from throwing garbage and plastic waste into gutters to avoid flooding as the rains set-in.
The MCE led cadet corps, students as well as chiefs and queens and heads of department and agencies to undertake a clean-up exercise in Bechem Township to mark the launch and cleared choked gutters and picked plastic waste and containers.
