Banda-Ahenkro (Bono), June 5, GNA – The Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to be proud of the performance and achievements of the government so far.
She called on supporters and members of the party to continue to support the government’s efforts towards improving the quality of life of the people.
She said the NDC members ought to be encouraged by achievements of the government, saying that the President John Dramani Mahama’s administration was managing and utilizing the nation’s resources prudently.
The Vice President gave the advice when speaking at a colourful ceremony held at Banda-Ahenkro in the Bono region to mark the 47th Anniversary of the June 4, uprising on the theme: “Strengthening state institutions: lessons from the June 4, 1979 uprising”.
Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang said that: “The government is operating with a relatively small number of ministers, allowing more funds to be channeled into critical development projects”.
She noted that the government had focused much on road infrastructure development basically due to consistent concerns raised by communities during the 2024 electioneering.
“It’s not by accident that we are paying much attention to roads. Throughout the campaigns, communities repeatedly requested better roads and we witnessed firsthand the difficulties people face due to poor road conditions”, the vice president justified.
She stressed that investments in roads, markets, healthcare facilities and other social infrastructure were necessary to improve the living condition of the people and promote the growth of economic activities.
Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang observed that many market women undertook their economic activities under difficult conditions, especially during rainy seasons, hence the need for the government to build standard markets to alleviate their plights.
She commended ministers of state for their dedication to serving the nation, saying that: “Many of the ministers are simultaneously managing ministerial duties, parliamentary responsibilities, constituency work and cabinet assignments, with some serving without deputy ministers”.
“This is a significant sacrifice and they deserve our encouragement and support to do even more”, the vice president stated.
She said the successful implementation of the government policies and programmes largely depended on the active participation of Ghanaians.
Vice President Prof Opoku-Agyemang expressed appreciation to NDC faithful and Ghanaians in general for their continued support to the government.
“While it’s important to reflect on past challenges, those challenges should serve as motivation to find lasting solutions”, she stated, adding that: “The problems of the past remind us why we are in government to solve them and improve the lives of our people”.
