Dambai (O/R), June 18, GNA – Residents of the Krachi East Municipality on Wednesday night erupted into spontaneous jubilation following Ghana’s dramatic 1-0 victory over Panama in their opening Group match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

The decisive goal, scored six minutes into stoppage time by Caleb Yirenkyi, sent fans into raptures as the Black Stars snatched all three points in a tense encounter.

Across Dambai and its surrounding communities, jubilant supporters thronged the streets, waving Ghana flags, singing patriotic songs and dancing to the rhythm of drums and vuvuzelas.

Many football enthusiasts had gathered at various public viewing centres to watch the match, and the late winner triggered scenes of excitement and relief after a nervy 90 minutes.

Mr Joshua Ntori, a football fan, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the victory demonstrated the team’s resilience and determination.

“We waited until the very last minute, and the Black Stars did not disappoint. This is exactly the kind of result we needed to begin the tournament on a positive note,” he said.

Madam Faustina Agbesi, a trader in Dambai, said the victory had uplifted spirits in the municipality and strengthened unity among residents.

“This win means a lot to us. It has brought people together and given us hope. We believe the Black Stars can go far in this competition if they remain focused,” she said.
