Dzodze, June 26, GNA – Under President John Dramani Mahama’s Akokɔ Nkitinkiti Programme, the Ketu North Municipal Assembly has distributed 50 birds each to selected households to boost food security, reduce poverty, and promote small-scale poultry farming across the municipality.

The exercise, led by Reverend Martin Amenaki, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), forms part of efforts to empower families with sustainable sources of nutrition and income while encouraging greater participation in household-level agricultural production.

Speaking during the distribution, Rev. Amenaki said the initiative was designed to improve livelihoods, create economic opportunities, and strengthen local food systems within communities.

He noted that supporting small-scale poultry farming would not only improve household nutrition but also provide families with an additional source of income, thereby contributing to poverty reduction and economic resilience.

“The programme is intended to empower households to become more self-reliant while promoting agricultural development at the grassroots level. By investing in poultry production, we are creating opportunities for families to improve their living conditions and contribute to local economic growth,” he said.

The MCE expressed gratitude to President Mahama for introducing what he described as a transformative intervention aimed at improving the welfare of ordinary Ghanaians through practical agricultural support.

He urged beneficiary households to take proper care of the birds and adhere to recommended poultry management practices to ensure the success and sustainability of the programme.

Rev. Amenaki assured residents that the Assembly would continue to support initiatives that promote food security, job creation, and agricultural development within the municipality.

Some beneficiaries who spoke to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) expressed appreciation to the government and the Municipal Assembly for the intervention, describing the support as timely and impactful.

They pledged to nurture the birds responsibly to ensure the programme achieved its intended objectives.

The beneficiaries said the initiative would help improve household nutrition, generate additional income, and enhance livelihoods, particularly amid current economic challenges.

They expressed optimism that the programme would contribute significantly to improving living standards and strengthening food security across the municipality.
