Keta (V/R), June 4, GNA – The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Keta Municipal Assembly, in the Volta Region, has announced a special three-day motorbike registration and rider licensing exercise.
The move aims to bring essential services closer to residents in the Keta and Anloga areas.
Mr Wonder Setsofia Deynu, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Director at Keta, indicated that the major public initiative would commence from Wednesday, July 8 to Friday, July 10, which seeks to simplify the process.
“It is a joint collaboration, and our objective is to initiate motorbike owners and riders to formally register their vehicles and obtain valid riding licenses,” he stated.
He explained that the exercise would form part of broader efforts by the DVLA to enhance road safety and formalise the operations of commercial and private motorbike users, many of whom currently ride without proper documentation which posed risks to themselves and other road users.
Mr Deynu emphasised that the special registration drive would provide a convenient platform for applicants to complete all necessary processes at a single location without the usual bureaucratic hurdles associated with standard DVLA procedures.
He said: “The venue for the exercise has been strategically selected, the Keta PWD Yard; it will be easily accessible to residents from Keta, Anloga and surrounding communities.”
He also announced that the special exercise is expected to witness a high turnout as motorbike owners and riders were strongly encouraged to seize the opportunity to regularise their documents during the three-day period.
They indicated that it is importance to obtain authentic licenses, with details such as class “A” for motorbikes which would be clearly specified for prospective applicants.
Mr Deynu stressed that the collaboration with NADMO underscored the disaster management angle of the initiative, as proper registration and licensing of motorbikes contribute significantly to reducing road traffic accidents, which often overwhelm emergency response systems during disasters.
For further enquiries and assistance, interested persons have been advised to contact the designated numbers: 0240554207 for Keta and 0246386892 for Anloga.
All motorbike owners and riders in the catchment area were therefore urged to take full advantage of the timely opportunity to register their vehicles and obtain their riding licenses to promote safer roads and legal compliance within the municipality.
