Nkroful (W/R), June 30, GNA- Mr Justice Afari, an educationist and businessman from Aiyinasi, has intensified his campaign for the Ellembelle Constituency First Vice-Chairman position ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency elections scheduled for July 8, 2026.
Mr Afari said he was taking his campaign to all communities within the Ellembelle District to promote his manifesto and unseat the incumbent.
Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Nkroful in the Western Region, Mr Afari said his decision to contest the position was to bring a new direction to the Ellembelle NPP.
He attributed the party’s poor performance in the 2024 parliamentary and presidential elections to internal divisions between the “Bonzo” and “Attito” camps, which, he said, created disunity at the polling station level.
“For eight years, the party did not go well in Ellembelle due to the two camps. Polling station executives did not get any slot for employment,” he said.
Mr Afari noted that the lack of cohesion within the party had enabled the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, to retain the seat for the past 20 years.
He said uniting the two factions would be his top priority to position the party to recapture power in the 2028 general elections.
“In 2016, there was unity in the constituency so the NPP closed the gap in the elections, though the NDC candidate won. However, in 2024, disunity and internal wranglings led to the abysmal performance of the party,” he said.
Mr Afari said the inability of constituency executives over the past eight years to unify the party had also affected opportunities for the youth and slowed development in the area.
He expressed concern that the long tenure of the incumbent MP had not translated into sufficient development in the constituency.
Mr Afari pledged to work closely with the party’s parliamentary candidate to campaign effectively and wrest political power from the NDC in the December 2028 elections.
He emphasised the need for the party to select a parliamentary candidate with a strong track record and clear vision to drive development projects that would improve the socio-economic conditions of the people.
Mr Afari cited the poor state of roads in the area, particularly the Esiama–Teleku-Bokazo through Aiyinasi stretch, and called for decisive leadership to address the situation.
He appealed to party executives and supporters to put aside their differences and unite for victory in 2028.
