Accra, June 10, GNA – The Joseph and Elizabeth Quansah (JEQ) Foundation has presented laptops to selected scholarship beneficiaries in Accra to support their academic work and improve access to technology.
The presentation, held at the University of Ghana SRC Union Building, formed part of the Foundation’s scholarship programme, which provides tuition, accommodation, mentorship and skills development support to financially challenged but academically promising tertiary students.
Dr Elizabeth I. Quansah, Co-Founder and Co-President of the Foundation, said the laptop initiative was introduced to address the lack of access to technology among some beneficiaries.
She said the laptops were awarded to active recipients based on academic performance and commitment to community service.
Dr Quansah said more than 300 students had benefited from the Foundation’s scholarship programme since its establishment in 2019, adding that at least 30 new scholarships would be awarded this year.
She said beneficiaries were required to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.3 to retain their scholarships and encouraged prospective applicants to follow the application requirements when the next scholarship cycle opens on June 11, 2026.
The Foundation also provides mentorship, internship opportunities and digital skills training to prepare students for the job market, she added.
Professor Rosina Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Ghana, commended the Foundation for supporting academically gifted but financially disadvantaged students.
She said many students continued to face financial challenges at the tertiary level despite increased access to education and noted that scholarships helped recipients focus on their studies.
Prof. Kyerematen urged beneficiaries to give back to their communities and encouraged corporate organisations and philanthropists to support educational initiatives.
Mr Abdul Rahman Lansah, President of the JEQ Foundation Alumni Group, said the scholarship programme had a significant impact on his academic and professional development.
He said the Foundation supported him during his final year at the University for Development Studies when he faced financial difficulties and later provided mentorship that helped him secure employment after national service.
He encouraged beneficiaries to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the Foundation and support others in the future.
Beneficiaries presented a citation to the Foundation’s founders in recognition of their contribution to education and youth development.
