Paris, Aug 27. (dpa/GNA) – Emergency services in Paris have discovered 58 migrants in a parked lorry, that was found overnight without a driver on the outskirts of the French capital, the public prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
The office gave no information on the condition of the people found. Investigators are now trying to establish whether the migrants had been brought to a specific location by an organized people-smuggling network.
The Paris public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation on suspicion of gang-related facilitation of illegal entry and the illegal trafficking or residence of foreign nationals in France.
According to French media reports, women and children were among those in the lorry. Some 26 migrants without valid residency permits were taken into custody.
