Sunyani (Bono Region), Aug. 25, GNA – The Sunyani Youth Development Association (SYDA) and the Sunyani for Development Association (SFDA) have congratulated Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II, Paramount Chief of the Sunyani Traditional Area, on his gazetting by the National House of Chiefs (NHC).
The NHC gazetted Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II on July 30, 2026, in accordance with the Chieftaincy Act, after which he was sworn in as President of the Sunyani Traditional Council (STC).
In a joint statement copied to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, the two development-oriented associations reaffirmed their commitment to the progress and unity of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
The statement, jointly signed by Mr Atta Akoto Senior, President of SYDA, and Mr Augustine Boahen, President of SFDA, described the gazetting of the Paramount Chief as a significant milestone and a reaffirmation of his rightful authority, the dignity of the traditional institution and the aspirations of the people of Sunyani.
It expressed gratitude to individuals, groups and stakeholders who had contributed in diverse ways to the prevailing peace in Sunyani and the successful ascension of Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II to the Paramount Stool.
The associations commended the Paramount Chief for his resilience and vision since his installation in 2025, despite the challenges he had encountered.
According to the statement, initiatives undertaken by the chief, including the establishment of the Ogyeamansan Educational Trust Fund to support academic and vocational development among the youth, the streamlining of stool lands administration, and the refurbishment of the Traditional Council’s palace, demonstrated his commitment to the welfare of the people.
The associations also acknowledged his efforts to enhance the image and relevance of traditional leadership in the area.
The statement, however, urged the Paramount Chief to promote reconciliation by extending a hand of friendship to all factions that opposed his installation.
“We commend Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Korkor II for his resilience and vision since his installation in 2025, despite the challenges encountered,” it added.
The statement urged the Paramount Chief “to let go of the past and extend a hand of reconciliation to all factions who opposed his installation,” saying that: “True leadership is measured not only by authority but by the ability to unite all people under one vision.”
The associations encouraged him to continue prioritising development within the traditional area, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, education, healthcare, and cultural preservation.
They expressed confidence that with unity, focus, and collective commitment, Sunyani could be ushered into a new era of growth and prosperity.
“As youth groups, SFDA and SYDA pledge our unwavering support to Odeefour for total development of Sunyani and the progress of its people.”
The associations noted that the future of Sunyani depended on the collective efforts of all stakeholders and pledged to contribute their energy, expertise and resources towards that cause.
They further called on citizens, residents and friends of the Sunyani Traditional Area to rally behind the Paramount Chief and support initiatives aimed at promoting peace, unity and development.
“Let us put aside our differences and embrace unity for the sake of total development. Together, we can build a Sunyani that reflects our heritage, dignity, and aspirations”, it concluded.
