Aboboyaa (WN/R), June 27, GNA – The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) office in the Western North Region has destroyed more than four tonnes of unregistered and expired products, seized from 61 outlets across the nine districts in the area.
The items included soft drinks, energy and alcohol infused drinks, baby diapers, unregistered body enhancement drugs, and illicit tobacco products.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after the exercise, Mr Albert Ankamah, the Western North Regional Director of the FDA, said the items were seized by the Authority during their routine market surveillance at various shops within Bibiani, Bekwai, Dwenase, Wiawso, Asawinso, Dadieso, Enchi, Bodi, Juaboso, Esaam/Debeiso, Adabokrom, and other outlets.
The Regional Director used the occasion to advise the public to always buy drugs from pharmacy shops and seek medical attention at approved health facilities and to stop buying from individuals who were not registered to operate.
Mr Ankamah also cautioned peddlers to desist from selling unapproved products, to avoid being sanctioned.
Mr Francis Kwasi Osorede, the Sefwi-Wiawso Municipal Environmental Officer, who supervised the exercise, lauded the FDA for the move, saying it was timely and had prevented the public from patronising these products that could have resulted in health complications.
He promised to always collaborate with the Authority to ensure the safety of the public and further advised Ghanaians to always check the expiry dates of products and to avoid buying rusty canned foods to safeguard their health.
