Aflao (V/R), June 03, GNA – Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, Minister for the Interior, has commended security agencies operating at the Aflao Border for their effective collaboration in protecting Ghana’s territorial integrity and enhancing national security.
The Minister made the remarks during an interaction with officers of the Ghana Immigration Service and other security agencies at the Aflao Border in the Ketu South Municipality on Tuesday as part of his two-day working visit to the Volta Region.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of coordination among the various agencies stationed at the country’s eastern frontier and underscored the importance of teamwork in addressing emerging security threats.
“I am happy to see that you are working together and collaborating effectively. That is the most important thing because security is not something any single institution can handle alone,” Mr Muntaka stated.
He observed that the visible cooperation among the Ghana Immigration Service, the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, National Security, Signal Bureau and other security institutions reflected a shared commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s borders and ensuring the smooth movement of people and goods.
“I can see Customs, National Security, Signal Bureau and all the other agencies here working together. We urge you to continue strengthening this collaboration because it is through effective teamwork that you will be able to secure the border community, protect our borders and properly monitor those entering and leaving the country,” he said.
The Minister noted that border security remained a critical component of national security, especially at a major international entry point such as Aflao, which serves as one of the busiest land borders in West Africa.
He stressed that sustained inter-agency cooperation would be vital in combating transnational crimes, irregular migration, human trafficking, smuggling, drug-related offences and other security challenges confronting the sub-region.
Mr Muntaka further encouraged officers to maintain professionalism and vigilance in the discharge of their duties while fostering stronger partnerships among the security services.
Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Mark Asamoah-Boakye, Aflao Sector Commander of the Ghana Immigration Service, commended the Minister for the visit and for engaging personnel on issues affecting border management and national security.
He said the visit had boosted the morale of officers and demonstrated the government’s commitment to addressing the challenges confronting frontline security personnel.
Mr Asamoah-Boakye assured the Minister that the Immigration Service and its partner agencies would continue to deepen collaboration, improve information sharing and strengthen operational efficiency to ensure effective service delivery and the protection of Ghana’s borders.
