Accra, Aug. 20, GNA – Major General Jackson Wonje, Commandant of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC), has appealed to corporate organisations to support the College with infrastructure and logistical resources to help sustain its status as a centre of excellence in professional military education.
He said although the College continued to play a vital role in shaping military leaders and contributing to national development, adequate infrastructural and logistical support remained critical to its effective operations.
Major Gen. Wonje made the appeal in Accra on Thursday when Mr Thomas Svanikier, Chairman and Director of Svani Group Limited, presented two Mahindra Scorpio 4×4 pickup vehicles to the College.
Describing the donation as timely, the Commandant said transportation was essential to the effective delivery of institutional services and the execution of the College’s strategic responsibilities.
He noted that the vehicles should not be regarded merely as physical assets but as an investment in the College’s capacity to achieve its educational and outreach objectives.
The vehicles would enhance operational efficiency, improve service delivery, and support the smooth functioning of the institution.
Major Gen. Wonje expressed gratitude to Mr Svanikier and Svani Group Limited for recognising the College’s role in developing military leaders and contributing to national development.
He assured the donor that the vehicles would be used prudently, responsibly, and productively for their intended purposes.
He added that the College would ensure their proper maintenance and management to guarantee sustained service.
The Commandant said the gesture underscored the importance of collaboration between the private sector and institutions dedicated to education and national development.
He expressed the College’s hope for similar support from other corporate organisations, particularly in infrastructure development, to help maintain its reputation as a centre of excellence.
Major Gen. Wonje reiterated the College’s appreciation for the timely intervention, noting that the donation would have a lasting positive impact on its operations.
Mr Svanikier, whose organisation also has interests in the automobile and logistics sectors, had earlier indicated his intention to support the College with a vehicle during a religious parade held on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
The two vehicles were subsequently delivered ahead of the date initially indicated for their presentation.
The GAFCSC traces its origins to the National War College, which was established in October 1963 to train officers of the Ghana Armed Forces for staff and higher command appointments.
The institution evolved into the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College in 1976, with the Senior Division of the GAFCSC commencing its first course in January 1977.
