Accra, June 18, GNA – The Amasaman Circuit Court has sentenced an auto sprayer to a fine of GH¢21,600 for selling a Hyundai saloon car entrusted to him for body work.

Daniel Amu, who admitted the offence, was convicted on charges of fraudulent breach of trust and stealing.

He was fined 800 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢9,600, for the breach of trust and 1,000 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢12,000, for stealing.

In default, Amu would serve 24 months’ imprisonment for the fraudulent breach of trust and 30 months for the theft, with the sentences to run consecutively.

The Court, presided over by Ms Susanna Nyakotey, ordered that the vehicle be released to Mr Emmanuel Dadzie, the complainant.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Dora Amoh told the Court that in October 2025, Mr Dadzie, a mason, gave his car, registered GS 7210-12, to Amu for body work and spraying at a fee of GH¢3,200.

Amu promised to complete the work within three weeks.

ASP Amoh said Amu later relocated to Mayera, where it was discovered that he had sold the vehicle to Anthony Quartey for GH¢15,000.

Amu was arrested on May 12, 2026, and admitted selling the car.

Quartey was also arrested and charged.

Quartey denied the offence and was granted bail of GH¢80,000 with three sureties, all of whom must be government workers.

He is required to report to the Police every Monday.

Meanwhile, the vehicle was retrieved and impounded by the Amasaman Police.

Amu, who initially claimed he had been asked by the complainant to find a buyer, later admitted stealing the vehicle.

He pleaded guilty with explanation and asked to refund the workmanship fee.

The Court ruled that his explanation did not amount to a defence and convicted him on his own plea.
