Berekum (Bono Region), June 2, GNA – The Berekum Traditional Council in the Bono Region has lauded the peaceful and successful enstoolment of a new Paramount Chief for the Berekum Traditional Area.

The Council expressed appreciation to kingmakers, sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and indigenes both home and abroad for their support, cooperation, and decorum throughout the enstoolment process of Osabarima Kyere Diabour Krobea Asante.

The enstoolment of Osabarima Asante followed the demise of the late Paramount Chief, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo II, who passed away on June 9, 2023, after a short illness.

“As the new paramount chief begins his 40-day confinement to undergo the required traditional and customary rites, we assure members of the public of a peaceful transition process,” Nana Kwame Darko, the spokesperson for Nana Akosua Agyemang, the Paramount Queen-mother of the Berekum Traditional Area stated.

Addressing a news conference at Berekum, Nana Darko indicated that the new Paramount Chief would be officially outdoored after successfully completing the customary rites.

He said the entire Berekum Royal Family was grateful to all individuals and stakeholders who contributed in diverse ways to the successful enstoolment.

“The successful enstoolment of Osabarima Asante marks a progressive milestone for the Berekum state and will pave the way for accelerated development and strengthened unity,” Nana Darko stated.

He also explained that the 40-day confinement period was a sacred customary obligation during which the Paramount Chief would be nurtured, guided, and educated on the rich customs, traditions, and history of the Berekum Stool.

He announced that a grand durbar would be held at the Berekum Omanhene’s Park after the confinement period to officially outdoor the newly enstooled Paramount Chief.

Nana Darko cautioned the youth against the misuse of social media to malign the Berekum Traditional Stool, stating that the Council was closely monitoring digital platforms and offenders would be sanctioned.

“We will not tolerate the use of Facebook and TikTok to fabricate malicious news, spread false rumors, or direct insults at the newly enstooled Paramount Chief,” Nana Darko warned.

He emphasised that any individual found culpable of disrespecting the Paramount Chief would face sanctions in accordance with both traditional and state laws.

Nana Darko called on all citizens of Berekum, home and abroad, to support the new Paramount Chief and rally behind him to promote the development of the traditional area.
