Volta House of Chiefs reflects on African Union Day

By Maxwell Awumah

Ho, May 25, GNA-The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has observed that the vision of unity and solidarity that inspired Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Africa’s “founding leader”, has not yet been fully realised  as the Continent marks 63rd anniversary of the African Union.

The anniversary is dubbed Africa Day or Africa Union (AU) Day.

The founding leaders dreamt of a continent bound together by cooperation, respect, and collective strength.

In a release signed by Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, the President of the Regional House of Chiefs, the House acknowledged that this dream has not yet been fully realized and botched by political divisions, weak regional integration and external pressures.

The release said these challenges continue to challenge Africa’s progress, yet, this day, “must remind us that unity is not just history, it is a responsibility for our generation.”

The statement said Africa’s future depends on stronger cooperation, fair trade, and leadership that places the continent above narrow interests.

It acknowledged the role of traditional leaders, close to the people – remain vital in promoting peace, cultural identity, and grassroots development.

The Regional House calls for renewed solidarity, respect among nations, and practical collaboration that benefits ordinary Africans.

“The vision of African unity must live on, not as a distant ideal, but as a shared duty we embrace today,” it concluded.
