Tema, May 04, GNA – Mr Ludwig Teye Totimeh, Tema West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), and Mr James Enu, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, have urged candidates sitting for the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to remain focused, disciplined, and confident.
Addressing candidates at various examination centres on the first day of the exams, the MP encouraged the candidates to approach the examination with seriousness and determination, describing it as the foundation of their academic journey.
“This exam is very important because it forms the foundation of your future education. If you build a strong foundation, you will be able to stand firm,” Mr Enu said.
He advised candidates to avoid examination malpractice, stressing that honesty and adequate preparation were key to success, and noted that confidence during examinations was often a reflection of adequate preparation.
Mr Totimeh, on his part, motivated the candidates to remain calm and self-assured, urging them to apply everything they had been taught.
“Go and face the exams with confidence. What you have studied is enough; just remain calm and give it your best,” he said, adding that the examination marked a critical transition from basic to senior high education.
He further encouraged the candidates to make their parents, teachers, and themselves proud by excelling in the examinations.
Madam Fatima Akuye Antiaye, Human Resource Manager for the Tema West Municipal Education Directorate, reminded candidates to adhere strictly to examination rules and regulations, cautioning them against carrying foreign materials into the examination halls, and stressed the need to pay attention to time management throughout the papers and be punctual to report to the centre.
The team visited the Tema Secondary School, Trinity Lutheran School, Holy Child School, and Sakumono School Complex centres.
Meanwhile, a total of 4249 candidates, comprising 2201 females and 2048 males, are writing the examination in 12 centres across the municipality.
